Initial investigation and diagnosis of Retinal problems, will involve dilation of the pupil (using eye drops) and use of the slit lamp
If further more detailed diagnosis is needed this is done using B SCAN
B-Scan is a method used for ocular assessment via ultrasound. This gives the ophthalmologist a view of the retina using sound wave.
The VE Med Company policy is to consistently research for new advances in Ophthalmic equipment for diagnosis, treatment and Surgical procedures. This means that the Ophthalmic Surgeons at VE MED are always at the cutting edge in providing the most advanced treatment protocols for their patients.
The Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is a modern imaging device to diagnose different eye health problems. The OCT images the retina, with a resolution far beyond what the human eye is capable of seeing. For, Optic Nerve analysis in Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Hole AMD, Retinal diseases, the OCT gives accurate diagnostic results. The OCT imaging can be requested as part of an Eye Health check up.
A Fundus Camera or retinal camera is a specialized low power microscope with an attached camera designed to photograph the interior surface of the eye. including the retina, retinal vasculature, optic disc and fundus.
The Iridex diode laser is used to heat some of the tissues in certain eye conditions. In the very late stages of diabetes, the peripheral retina can create problems, and the Iridex laser can be used to alleviate this.
Panretinal Photocoagulation (PRP) is the mainstay treatment for late stages of diabetic retinopathy, and is the main use of the Iridex.
The advanced Iridex laser features “micropulse”. This means the laser can heat the eye tissue for a very short time, to minimize effects to other parts of the eye.
The Iridex is a yellow laser , more advanced than the green laser which was previously used to treat diabetic retinopathy. This advance in laser light means multiple use is possible which was not the case with “ green“ laser .
Iridex laser can also be used for controlling the eye pressure in mild glaucoma, and for certain kinds of retinal inflammation.
